What is an Architectural Survey?

Architectural Survey

Measurement work and representation of the "as built".Levantamento Arquitetónico

Initial data collection

In order to have high metric quality, it is essential that the data are captured using a set of high-precision topographic equipment, such as: GNSS, Total Stations and 3D Laser Scanner's (LIDAR) fixed and mobile. These equipments must work in an integrated way, over topographic polygons and using targets previously coordinated by high precision equipments.

Data processing

After registration, cleaning, georeferencing and export of the resulting point clouds, they are sent in various formats (E57, las, laz, ptx, ptg, xyzrgb, rcp or others), so that they can be integrated into various architectural design programmes, such as AutoCAD, Microstation, Archicad, Revit, among others.

What it is used for and where it is used

The point clouds allow the most accurate two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional representation of the existing building.
The architectural survey, using laser scanners, is normally used in all phases of the process, whether for the preparation of the preliminary study, the preliminary design, the licensing project or in the execution project phase and in the verification / inspection of the construction phase.

Its Importance

It is an important working tool, by which the construction will be designed and guided until the end of the procedure. This stage is therefore very important. In it, the professional takes the measurement of the building "as built", from the architectural point of view, allowing, however, several other levels of information to be added, regarding structure, HVAC, fire systems, among other stocks considered relevant in the development of the project to come.

Results

The result of the architectural survey is the 3D models, BIM or technical drawings, such as plans, sections, elevations and profiles marking floors, doors, windows, stairs, elevations, among others. This work should also be accompanied by a photographic survey of the property and surrounding areas.

Where it proves vital

The architectural survey is of great importance, especially in older buildings, to serve as an accurate basis, with metric quality, and in this way their rehabilitation and architectural changes can be designed safely and in accordance with the standards and laws in force, aiming at a good development of the future project.
It is extremely necessary and of vital importance for buildings that do not have any record or design of their architectural features (plans, sections, elevations).
