What does a Surveying Engineer do?

O engenheiro topógrafo é um técnico superior com funções multidisciplinares e preparado para diversas funções de ação, planeamento e projeto.
In addition to acting in the various phases of planning, study and execution, they have enormous relevance in the initial phase of capturing metric data of high quality and reliability, determining factors in the execution and good development of any project, using various pieces of equipment that have a large number of sensors that incorporate cutting-edge technology and highly specialised software, such as:
- Total Optical Stations (manual or robotic);
– GNSS;
- 3D Laser Scanner's;
– UAV/Drones;
- LIDAR, photogrammetric, thermal or NDVI sensors;
- Specific calculation, adjustment, CAD vectorial drawing, 3D modelling or BIM software;

The Surveyor or Topographic Engineer has a strong presence in all stages of the project, from planning, follow-up, monitoring, to the supervision of the whole process.
As in any profession, the functions of a surveying professional vary according to their area of specialisation. However, we can say that the specialist in Topographic Engineering can carry out a wide range of professional duties, such as:
- 2D planimetric or 3D plani-altimetric Topographic Surveys;
- 2D, 3D and BIM Architectural Surveys;
- Implementation, monitoring and control of Civil Engineering Works;
- Development of Cartography and Photogrammetry works;
- Development of Geographical Information studies;
- Calculation and Studies of Urban Plans and Urban Land Division;
- Water Supply and Wastewater Drainage Studies;
